Nato in Belgio nel 1949, dopo aver studiato, presso l'Università di Lovanio, scienze della religione, filologia biblica e teologia, si è convertito all'ebraismo nel 1983 ed è emigrato in Israele. Esperto del pensiero ebraico (Levinas, Rosenzweig), attualmente è professore di filosofia all'Università Bar-Ilan di Gerusalemme.
